RESUMO

For decades, great strides have been made in the field of immunometabolism. A plethora of evidence ranging from basic mechanisms to clinical transformation has gradually embarked on immunometabolism to the center stage of innate and adaptive immunomodulation. Given this, we focus on changes in immunometabolism, a converging series of biochemical events that alters immune cell function, propose the immune roles played by diversified metabolic derivatives and enzymes, emphasize the key metabolism-related checkpoints in distinct immune cell types, and discuss the ongoing and upcoming realities of clinical treatment. It is expected that future research will reduce the current limitations of immunotherapy and provide a positive hand in immune responses to exert a broader therapeutic role.

In recent years, CO2 flooding has become one of the main enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods, especially for tight formations in different oilfields around the world. Most of the CO2 flooding projects carried out in the world are based on miscible flooding, however, this technique is less effective in China because of the depth of the reservoirs and the heavy components of the crude oil. Near-miscible flooding and immiscible flooding have also been gradually applied to China's domestic oil fields, and have achieved certain oil increase effects, but there are still some challenges such as gas channeling, corrosion, and solid phase deposition in the process of CO2 flooding. In this paper, through a detailed review of recent domestic and foreign cases of enhanced oil recovery, the effects of development methods of low permeability and ultralow permeability reservoirs under different miscible degrees are analyzed, and the solutions to some of the existing problems in field tests and experience are systematically summarized. According to the results of field tests, both miscible flooding and near-miscible flooding have similar effects and can achieve better recovery increment, with a long effect period and slow gas breakthrough speed. In addition, the problems of gas channeling, corrosion, and solid phase deposition occurring in the process of CO2 flooding are analyzed, and solutions such as a change in injection methods and coatings are put forward, which effectively promote the development of CO2 flooding technology. Those suggestions are of great significance for improving the oil recovery rate of unconventional oil reservoirs, ensuring the national energy supply, and low-carbon emissions reduction in China.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to conduct a comprehensive analysis, evaluating the prognostic significance of the baseline Advanced Lung Cancer Inflammation Index (ALI) and Gustave Roussy Immune (GRIm) Score in patients undergoing immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy. METHODS: A comprehensive search was performed across various databases, including PubMed, the Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and Google Scholar, until October 21, 2023, to compile relevant articles for analysis. The investigation encompassed diverse clinical outcomes, including overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). RESULTS: This analysis included a total of 15 articles, comprising 19 studies involving 3335 patients. Among the 19 studies, nine studies focused on NSCLC, and six studies were conducted on HCC. Pooled results revealed that patients with elevated ALI levels experienced prolonged OS (HR: 0.51, 95% CI: 0.37-0.70, p < 0.001) and extended PFS (HR: 0.61, 95% CI: 0.52-0.72, p < 0.001). Furthermore, a GRIm score > 1 was associated with reduced OS (HR: 2.07, 95% CI: 1.47-2.92, p < 0.001) and diminished PFS (HR: 1.78, 95% CI: 1.35-2.34, p < 0.001) in cancer patients receiving ICIs. Subgroup analysis indicated that ALI cutoff values of 18 exhibited enhanced predictive potential. Additionally, for HCC patients, those with HCC-GRIm score > 2 showed a substantially decreased risk of mortality compared to individuals with HCC-GRIm score ≤ 2 (HR: 2.63, 95% CI: 1.89-3.65, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The ALI and GRIm score served as dependable prognostic indicators for patients undergoing ICI therapy in the context of cancer treatment.

We explored the association of body mass index (BMI) with mortality in cardiogenic shock (CS). Using the Cardiogenic Shock Working Group registry, we assessed the impact of BMI on mortality using restricted cubic splines in a multivariable logistic regression model adjusting for age, gender, and race. We also assessed mortality, device use, and complications in BMI categories, defined as underweight (<18.5 kg/m2), normal (18.5-24.9 kg/m2), overweight (25-29.9 kg/m2), obese (30-39.9 kg/m2), and severely obese (>40 kg/m2) using univariable logistic regression models. Our cohort had 3,492 patients with CS (mean age = 62.1 ± 14 years, 69% male), 58.0% HF-related CS (HF-CS), and 27.8% acute myocardial infarction (AMI) related CS. Body mass index was a significant predictor of mortality in multivariable regression using restricted cubic splines (p < 0.0001, p = 0.194 for nonlinearity). When stratified by categories, patients with healthy weight had lower mortality (29.0%) than obese (35.1%, p = 0.003) or severely obese (36.7%, p = 0.01). In HF-CS cohort, the healthy weight patients had the lowest mortality (21.7%), whereas it was higher in the underweight (37.5%, p = 0.012), obese (29.2%, p = 0.003), and severely obese (29.9%, p = 0.019). There was no difference in mortality among BMI categories in AMI-CS.

Nowadays, environmental pollution and the energy crisis are two significant concerns in the world, and photocatalysis is seen as a key solution to these issues. All-inorganic lead halide perovskites have been extensively utilized in photocatalysis and have become one of the most promising materials in recent years. The superior performance of all-inorganic lead halide perovskites distinguish them from other photocatalysts. Since pure lead halide perovskites typically have shortcomings, such as low stability, poor active sites, and ineffective carrier extraction, that restrict their use in photocatalytic reactions, it is crucial to enhance their photocatalytic activity and stability. Huge progress has been made to deal with these critical issues to enhance the effects of all-inorganic lead halide perovskites as efficient photocatalysts in a wide range of applications. In this manuscript, the synthesis methods of all-inorganic lead halide perovskites are discussed, and promising strategies are proposed for superior photocatalytic performance. Moreover, the research progress of photocatalysis applications are summarized; finally, the issues of all-inorganic lead halide perovskite photocatalytic materials at the current state and future research directions are also analyzed and discussed. We hope that this manuscript will provide novel insights to researchers to further promote the research on photocatalysis based on all-inorganic lead halide perovskites.

BACKGROUND: There is no evidence supporting the feasibility of laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy (LPD) compared to open pancreatoduodenectomy (OPD) following neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). METHODS: The clinical data of consecutive patients with borderline resectable PDAC who received NACT and underwent either LPD or OPD between January 2020 and December 2022 at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center was prospectively collected and retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS: The analysis included 57 patients in the OPD group and 20 in the LPD group. Following NACT, the LPD group exhibited a higher median CA19-9 decrease rate compared to the OPD group (85.3% vs. 66.9%, P = 0.042). Furthermore, 3 anatomically borderline PDACs in the LPD group and 5 in the OPD group were downstaged into resectable status (30.0% vs. 12.3%, P = 0.069). According to RECIST criteria, 51 (66.2%) patients in the entire cohort were evaluated as having stable disease. The median operation time for the LPD group was longer than the OPD group (419 vs. 325 min, P < 0.001), while the venous resection rate was 35.0% vs. 43.9%, respectively (P = 0.489). There was no difference in the number of retrieved lymph nodes, with a median number of 18.5 in the LPD group and 22 in the OPD group, and the R1 margin rate (15.0% vs. 12.3%) was also comparable. The incidence of Clavien-Dindo complications (35.0% vs. 66.7%, P = 0.018) was lower in the LPD group compared to the OPD group. Multivariable regression analysis revealed that a tumor diameter > 3 cm before NACT (HR 2.185) and poor tumor differentiation (HR 1.805) were independent risk factors for recurrence-free survival, and a decrease rate of CA19-9 > 70% (OR 0.309) was a protective factor for early tumor recurrence and overall survival. CONCLUSIONS: LPD for PDAC following NACT is feasible and oncologically equivalent to OPD. Effective control of CA19-9 levels is beneficial in reducing early tumor recurrence and improving overall survival.

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries, which store energy through reversible redox reactions with multiple electron transfers, are seen as one of the promising energy storage systems of the future due to their outstanding advantages. However, the shuttle effect, volume expansion, low conductivity of sulfur cathodes, and uncontrollable dendrite phenomenon of the lithium anodes have hindered the further application of Li-S batteries. In order to solve the problems and clarify the electrochemical reaction mechanism, various types of materials, such as metal compounds and carbon materials, are used in Li-S batteries. Polymers, as a class of inexpensive, lightweight, and electrochemically stable materials, enable the construction of low-cost, high-specific capacity Li-S batteries. Moreover, polymers can be multifunctionalized by obtaining rich structures through molecular design, allowing them to be applied not only in cathodes, but also in binders and solid-state electrolytes to optimize electrochemical performance from multiple perspectives. The most widely used areas related to polymer applications in Li-S batteries, including cathodes and electrolytes, are selected for a comprehensive overview, and the relevant mechanisms of polymer action in different components are discussed. Finally, the prospects for the practical application of polymers in Li-S batteries are presented in terms of advanced characterization and mechanistic analysis.

Whey protein isolate (WPI) and chitosan were used to fabricate WPI/chitosan composite particles at temperatures of 75 °C (WPI/chitosan-75) and 95 °C (WPI/chitosan-95). The morphologic structure, surface properties, and the resulting tribological characteristics of the particles were investigated. The composite particles showed larger particle size than pure WPI particles (WPI-75) (~ 509 nm), with WPI/chitosan-95 the largest (932 nm). WPI/chitosan-75 showed complete core-shell structure from microstructure results. The dispersion of WPI/chitosan-75 exhibited higher surface hydrophobicity but lower viscosity compared to WPI/chitosan-95. Tribological analysis revealed that WPI/chitosan composite particles showed dramatically lower friction coefficient (µ) than pure WPI particles at sliding speed <10 mm/s and WPI/chitosan-75 demonstrated superior lubrication effects. With the presence of artificial saliva, the µ of WPI-75 was greatly lowered at sliding speed <16 mm/s, while the values of WPI/chitosan-75 only showed a slight decrease at sliding speed <1 mm/s. Chitosan might have played the similar role as artificial saliva in lubricating on the hydrophobic surface. Moreover, the incorporation of 0.5 % WPI/chitosan-75 in the low-fat (5 %) oil-in-water emulsion led to even lower µ than full-fat (20 %) emulsion at sliding speed <10 mm/s. Hence, WPI/chitosan-75 exhibited promising potential as a fat replacement and biolubricant.

N-myc and STAT interactor (NMI) has been reported to interact with several transcription factors, including STATs family, c-Myc, N-Myc, and BRCA1, to indirectly affect transcription events and participate in multiple cellular processes. However, its function in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has seldom been studied. In this study, we investigated the regulation of NMI on PDAC progression and uncovered the underlying molecular mechanisms. We found that NMI expression was significantly upregulated in PDAC and high NMI expression was related to a worse patient survival. Cell proliferation and migration assay, including cell viability, transwell assay, wound healing, and subcutaneous mouse model were utilized to confirm the function of NMI in PDAC progression. Downregulation of NMI abrogates tumor progression of PDAC both in vitro and in vivo. RNA sequencing was utilized to identify the downstream molecules of NMI and interferon-induced protein with tetratricopeptide repeats 3 (IFIT3) was confirmed to be regulated by NMI in both mRNA and protein level. The binding function of NMI to STAT3 was essential in regulating the IFIT3 expression. Moreover, the NMI/STAT3-IFIT3 axis was identified to markedly facilitate the gemcitabine resistance in PDAC cells.

OBJECTIVE: Prior studies have examined the effect of blood type on heart transplantation (HTx) waitlist outcomes in cohorts through 2015. We aim to analyze the effect of blood type on contemporary waitlist outcomes with a new allocation system focus. METHODS: Adults listed for HTx between April 2015 and December 2020 were included. Survival to HTx and waitlist death/deterioration was compared between type O and non-type O candidates using competing risks regression. Donor/recipient ABO compatibility trends were further investigated. RESULTS: Candidates with blood type O (n = 7509) underwent HTx less frequently than candidates with blood type other than type O (n = 9699) (subhazard ratio [sHR], 0.56; 95% CI, 0.53-0.58) with higher rates of waitlist death/deterioration (sHR, 1.18; 95% CI, 1.04-1.34). Subgroup analyses demonstrated persistence of this trend under the new donor heart allocation system (HTx: sHR, 0.58; 95% CI, 0.54-0.62; death/clinical deterioration: sHR, 1.27; 95% CI, 1.02-1.60), especially among those listed at high status (1, 2, or 3) (HTx: sHR, 0.69; 95% CI, 0.63-0.75; death/deterioration: sHR, 1.61; 95% CI, 1.16-2.22). Among those listed at status 3, waitlist death/deterioration was modified by presence of a durable left ventricular assist device (left ventricular assist device: sHR, 1.57; 95% CI, 0.58-4.29; no left ventricular assist device: sHR, 3.79; 95% CI, 1.28-11.2). Type O donor heart allocation to secondary ABO candidates increased in the new system (14.5% vs 12.0%; P < .01); post-HTx survival remained comparable between recipients with blood type O and non-type O (log-rank P = .07). CONCLUSIONS: Further logistical considerations are warranted to minimize allocation inequity regarding blood type under the new allocation system.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is an extremely aggressive malignancy prone to recurrence and metastasis. Studies show that tumor cells with increased invasive and metastatic potential are more likely to undergo ferroptosis. SMAD4 is a critical molecule in the transforming growth factor ß (TGF-ß) pathway, which affects the TGF-ß-induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) status. SMAD4 loss is observed in more than half of patients with PDAC. In this study, we investigated whether SMAD4-positive PDAC cells were prone to ferroptosis because of their high invasiveness. We showed that SMAD4 status almost determined the orientation of transforming growth factor ß1 (TGF-ß1)-induced EMT via the SMAD4-dependent canonical pathway in PDAC, which altered ferroptosis vulnerability. We identified glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), which inhibited ferroptosis, as a SMAD4 down-regulated gene by RNA sequencing. We found that SMAD4 bound to the promoter of GPX4 and decreased GPX4 transcription in PDAC. Furthermore, TGF-ß1-induced high invasiveness enhanced sensitivity of SMAD4-positive organoids and pancreas xenograft models to the ferroptosis inducer RAS-selective lethal 3 (RSL3). Moreover, SMAD4 enhanced the cytotoxic effect of gemcitabine combined with RSL3 in highly invasive PDAC cells. This study provides new ideas for the treatment of PDAC, especially SMAD4-positive PDAC.

BACKGROUND: Studies reporting cardiogenic shock (CS) outcomes in women are scarce. OBJECTIVES: The authors compared survival at discharge among women vs men with CS complicating acute myocardial infarction (AMI-CS) and heart failure (HF-CS). METHODS: The authors analyzed 5,083 CS patients in the Cardiogenic Shock Working Group. Propensity score matching (PSM) was performed with the use of baseline characteristics. Logistic regression was performed for log odds of survival. RESULTS: Among 5,083 patients, 1,522 were women (30%), whose mean age was 61.8 ± 15.8 years. There were 30% women and 29.1% men with AMI-CS (P = 0.03). More women presented with de novo HF-CS compared with men (26.2% vs 19.3%; P < 0.001). Before PSM, differences in baseline characteristics and sex-specific outcomes were seen in the HF-CS cohort, with worse survival at discharge (69.9% vs 74.4%; P = 0.009) and a higher rate of maximum Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions stage E (26% vs 21%; P = 0.04) in women than in men. Women were less likely to receive pulmonary artery catheterization (52.9% vs 54.6%; P < 0.001), heart transplantation (6.5% vs 10.3%; P < 0.001), or left ventricular assist device implantation (7.8% vs 10%; P = 0.01). Regardless of CS etiology, women had more vascular complications (8.8% vs 5.7%; P < 0.001), bleeding (7.1% vs 5.2%; P = 0.01), and limb ischemia (6.8% vs 4.5%; P = 0.001). More vascular complications persisted in women after PSM (10.4% women vs 7.4% men; P = 0.06). CONCLUSIONS: Women with HF-CS had worse outcomes and more vascular complications than men with HF-CS. More studies are needed to identify barriers to advanced therapies, decrease complications, and improve outcomes of women with CS.

The demand and use of dyes in modern life are increasing, and dye pollution has become a widespread concern worldwide; therefore, it is essential to develop novel environmentally friendly materials to deal with dye wastewater. Herein, a novel visible-light-driven ternary catalyst (BiOI/Bi2S3/MgIn2S4) was fabricated by employing the hydrothermal method. Compared to BiOI, the synthesized ternary catalyst exhibited better photocatalytic performance to decompose Congo red under visible light. Congo red was completely degraded after 0.5 h (0.5 g/L photocatalyst BiOI/Bi2S3/MIS-1) in the presence of visible light, which was 16.83 and 9.94 times of that of pure BiOI and MgIn2S4, respectively. A repetitive experiment showed that the BiOI/Bi2S3/MIS-1 could be reusable to degrade Congo red, demonstrating that it has excellent mechanical properties. The enhanced photocatalytic capability was due to addition of BiOI and Bi2S3, which increased the charge separation as well as suppressed the recombination of photo-induced holes and electrons. Electron paramagnetic resonance technique and free radical trapping tests were employed to determine the radicals produced in BiOI/Bi2S3/MgIn2S4 in the presence of visible light, indicating that ·O2- and h+ were major active species to decompose Congo red under photocatalytic process. Seventeen main intermediates or reaction products were identified by UPLC-MS. The tentative degradation pathway of Congo red was also proposed.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) following enucleation is high, and prophylactic pancreaticojejunostomy (PPJ) is frequently performed. Minimally invasive enucleation (MEN) has been demonstrated to be safe and feasible, leaving most enucleation wounds exposed. METHODS: The clinical data of 40 patients who underwent open enucleation with PPJ at our center between 2012 and 2021 were compared with those of 80 patients who underwent MEN. RESULTS: The MEN group had better outcomes than the PPJ group in terms of intraoperative bleeding (50.0 versus 100.0 mL), postoperative semi-liquid diet recovery (2.0 versus 5.0 days), and postoperative length of stay (7.7 versus 12.5 days). While the MEN group had higher rates of complex enucleation (60.0% versus 40.0%), main pancreatic duct repair (32.5% versus 10.0%), discharge with drains (48.8% versus 25.0%), and grade B POPFs (47.5% versus 17.5%). Both surgical methods effectively preserved pancreatic function; however, two patients in the PPJ group experienced severe haemorrhaging and died. Additionally, during the follow-up period, gastrointestinal bleeding was found and discomfort in the surgical area was reported. CONCLUSION: Pancreatic enucleation combined with PPJ should be avoided, and although a biochemical or grade B POPF may develop after MEN, it can be compensated for by preserving pancreatic function and ensuring a good long-term quality of life in the patients.

This study was performed to examine the effect of two soy peptides addition with hydrolysis degrees of 90% and 30% (hydrolysis degree (DH)90, DH30) at various concentrations (1-10 mg/mL) on soy protein isolate (SPI) gel behavior and pure SPI gel was set as control. SPI gels with adding peptides were prepared, and their rheological, textural, and tribological properties, as well as water-holding capacity, zeta potential, and particle size, were determined. During the rheological measurement, adding peptides reduced storage modulus (G') compared to the control, with larger particles formed. However, peptide addition could significantly reduce gelation time, showing a more significant effect with DH30. The gels' firmness, adhesiveness, and water-holding capacity decreased as peptide concentration increased. Syneresis was observed in gels with peptides, whereas the control sample showed no syneresis. Based on the rheological results, the shear stress in the control sample was higher than in the gels containing peptides indicating more resistance to shear. The gels with DH30 showed greater G' and G″ than DH90 at all studied concentrations. Nevertheless, there was an improvement in the lubrication behavior of SPI gels with peptide addition. DH30 showed a relatively more significant friction reduction than DH90, indicating their slightly better lubrication properties.

BACKGROUND: Consensus recommendations for cardiogenic shock (CS) advise transfer of patients in need of advanced options beyond the capability of "spoke" centers to tertiary/"hub" centers with higher capabilities. However, outcomes associated with such transfers are largely unknown beyond those reported in individual health networks. OBJECTIVES: To analyze a contemporary, multicenter CS cohort with the aim of comparing characteristics and outcomes of patients between transfer (between spoke and hub centers) and nontransfer cohorts (those primarily admitted to a hub center) for both acute myocardial infarction (AMI-CS) and heart failure-related HF-CS. We also aim to identify clinical characteristics of the transfer cohort that are associated with in-hospital mortality. METHODS: The Cardiogenic Shock Working Group (CSWG) registry is a national, multicenter, prospective registry including high-volume (mostly hub) CS centers. Fifteen U.S. sites contributed data for this analysis from 2016-2020. RESULTS: Of 1890 consecutive CS patients enrolled into the CSWG registry, 1028 (54.4%) patients were transferred. Of these patients, 528 (58.1%) had heart failure-related CS (HF-CS), and 381 (41.9%) had CS related to acute myocardial infarction (AMI-CS). Upon arrival to the CSWG site, transfer patients were more likely to be in SCAI stages C and D, when compared to nontransfer patients. Transfer patients had higher mortality rates (37% vs 29%, < 0.001) than nontransfer patients; the differences were driven primarily by the HF-CS cohort. Logistic regression identified increasing age, mechanical ventilation, renal replacement therapy, and higher number of vasoactive drugs prior to or within 24 hours after CSWG site transfer as independent predictors of mortality among HF-CS patients. Conversely, pulmonary artery catheter use prior to transfer or within 24 hours of arrival was associated with decreased mortality rates. Among transfer AMI-CS patients, BMI > 28 kg/m2, worsening renal failure, lactate > 3 mg/dL, and increasing numbers of vasoactive drugs were associated with increased mortality rates. CONCLUSION: More than half of patients with CS managed at high-volume CS centers were transferred from another hospital. Although transfer patients had higher mortality rates than those who were admitted primarily to hub centers, the outcomes and their predictors varied significantly when classified by HF-CS vs AMI-CS.

We report on a novel, to the best of our knowledge, active probe for scanning near-field optical microscopy (SNOM). A fluorescent nanosphere, acting as the secondary source, is grafted in an electrostatic manner at the apex of a polymer tip integrated into the extremity of an optical fiber. Thanks to the high photostability and sensitivity of the secondary source, the near-field interaction with a gold nanocube is investigated. It is shown that the spatial resolution is well defined by the size of the fluorescent nanosphere. The polarization-dependent near-field images, which are consistent with the simulation, are ascribed to the local excitation rate enhancement. Meanwhile, measurement of the distance-dependent fluorescence lifetime of the nanosphere provides strong evidence that the local density of states is modified so that extra information on nano-emitters can be extracted during near-field scanning. This advanced active probe can thus potentially broaden the range of applications to include nanoscale thermal imaging, biochemical sensors, and the manipulation of nanoparticles.

BACKGROUND: The optimal parameters for defining stages of cardiogenic shock (CS) are not yet known. The Cardiogenic Shock Working Group-defined Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (CSWG-SCAI) staging of CS was developed to provide simple and specific parameters for risk-stratifying patients. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to test whether the Cardiogenic Shock Working Group-defined Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (CSWG-SCAI) staging is associated with in-hospital mortality, using the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV (MIMIC-IV) database. METHODS: We utilized the open-access MIMIC-IV database, which includes >300,000 patients admitted between 2008 and 2019. We extracted the clinical profile of patients admitted with CS and stratified them into different SCAI stages at admission based on the CSWG criteria. We then tested the association between in-hospital mortality and parameters of hypotension, hypoperfusion, and overall CSWG-SCAI stage. RESULTS: Of the 2463 patients, CS was predominantly caused by heart failure (HF; 54.7 %) or myocardial infarction (MI; 26.3 %). Mortality was 37.5 % for the total cohort, 32.7 % for patients with HF, and 40 % for patients with MI (p < 0.001). Mortality was higher among patients with mean arterial pressure < 65 mmHg, lactate >2 mmol/L, ALT >200 IU/L, pH ≤ 7.2, and more than one drug/device support at baseline. Increasing CSWG-SCAI stages at baseline and maximum CSWG-SCAI stage achieved were significantly associated with in-hospital mortality (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The CSWG-SCAI stages are significantly associated with in-hospital mortality and may be used to identify hospitalized patients at risk of worsening cardiogenic shock severity. The main causes of cardiogenic shock were heart failure (54.7 %) and myocardial infarction (26.3 %). The overall mortality rate was 37.5 %, with a higher rate among patients with myocardial infarction (40 %) compared to those with heart failure (32.7 %). Mean arterial pressure < 65 mmHg, lactate >2 mmol/L, ALT >200 IU/L, and pH ≤ 7.2 were significantly associated with mortality. Increasing CSWG-SCAI stages at baseline and maximum achieved stages were strongly associated with higher mortality (p < 0.05). Therefore, the CSWG-SCAI staging system can be used to risk-stratify patients with cardiogenic shock.

The liver is critical for the digestive and immune systems. Although the physiology and pathology of liver have been well studied and many scRNA-seq data are generated, a database and landscape for characterizing cell types and gene expression in different liver diseases or developmental stages at single-cell resolution are lacking. Hence, scLiverDB is developed, a specialized database for human and mouse liver transcriptomes to unravel the landscape of liver cell types, cell heterogeneity and gene expression at single-cell resolution across various liver diseases/cell types/developmental stages. To date, 62 datasets including 9,050 samples and 1,741,734 cells is curated. A uniform workflow is used, which included quality control, dimensional reduction, clustering, and cell-type annotation to analyze datasets on the same platform; integrated manual and automatic methods for accurate cell-type identification and provided a user-friendly web interface with multiscale functions. There are two case studies to show the usefulness of scLiverDB, which identified the LTB (lymphotoxin Beta) gene as a potential biomarker of lymphoid cells differentiation and showed the expression changes of Foxa3 (forkhead box A3) in liver chronic progressive diseases. This work provides a crucial resource to resolve molecular and cellular information in normal, diseased, and developing human and mouse livers.

Populus euphratica Oliv., a dominant species of arid desert community, grows heteromorphic leaves at different crown positions. Whether heteromorphic leaves are a strategy of plant adaptation to drought stress is rarely reported. This study sequenced the transcriptome of three typical heteromorphic leaves (lanceolate, ovate and broad-ovate leaves) of P. euphratica, and measured their drought stress. We wanted to reveal the molecular mechanisms underlying the formation of heteromorphic leaves. Drought stress was increased significantly from lanceolate to ovate to broad-ovate leaves. Gene ontology (GO) and KEGG enrichment analysis showed that the MADs-box gene regulated the expression of peroxidase (POD) in the phenylpropane biosynthetic pathway. The up-regulated expression of the chalcone synthase (CHS) gene in broad-ovate leaves significantly activated the flavonoid biosynthetic pathway. In the process of leaf shape change, the different expressions of homeodomain leucine zipper (HD-ZIP) among the three heteromorphic leaves had potential interactions on the AUX and ABA pathways. The expression of Sucrose phosphate synthase (SPS) and sucrose synthase (SUS) increased from lanceolate to broad-ovate leaves, resulting in a consistent change in starch and sucrose content. We concluded that these resistance-related pathways are expressed in parallel with leaf formation genes, thereby inducing the formation of heteromorphic leaves. Our work provided a new insights for desert plants to adapt to drought stress.
